But this entity is not Satan for Thelemites.
He/She/It was vastly misunderstood by Crowley, possibly because of particular expectations he had, based upon an abiding fear of dispersion. He even changed the original spelling of the name from Dee and gave it an "H" ust so its gematria would add up to the same number as 'dispersion".
Think about where we would be were we never able to "disperse" our thoughts; we'd be awfully stolid beings, unable to ever relax our minds or wander or daydream.

and can say that in at least some senses it is definitely a real entity.
Imagine how you might have responded if someone called you up out of your natural environment and started hurling invectives at you.
To put that in non-mythos terms:
Fighting the chaos in your mind only causes that part of your mind to bunch up and tighten. There are ways to get focus and concentration without this happening.
Don't believe that "by silence, Choronzon can be brought to obey." CHORONZON obeys no-one and is as allergic to silence as any wampyr is allergic to garlic and sunlight. In other words, bupkis.

Sat, August 13, 2005 - 8:47 AMThat is an EXCELLENT and very imformative website. Thank you very much. Will be putting it on my list of things that are cool! Even on my mailing list! Thanks so much! Didn't finish reading everything, but what I did was VERY impressive.

Re: CHORONZON Is Coming...Has come.
Fri, August 19, 2005 - 7:30 PMmmm - I respect your viewpoint, but I tend to disagree. I can say that Crowley's experience with Choronzon gave him a certain authority, and that he didn't use it to overtake Kelly's experience. I do agree that Crowley took it too far, however - and that he fell prey to the very dispersion he spoke of. But wouldn't you say this gives him some unique perspective, even if it is in denial?
For example, being as you consider yourself an ally of Choronzon, I would say this gives you a very unique perspective over that of both Crowley and Kelly. And even Dees. If I find it to be a different experience I certainly wouldn't deny the value in your assessment.

Re: CHORONZON Is Coming...Has come.
Sun, August 21, 2005 - 11:13 AMCrowley's approach did a lot to shape his experience of Choronzon, as did his incomplete performance of the Abremelin working. The traditional method of invocation and evocation was one of control and binding, when the entities were demonic. In chaos magick, this would defeat the purpose.
Crowley opened up what can be done and discussed in magick, but he was bound by tradition more than he would have wanted to admit, and and stopped tragically short on crossing the Abyss.
I do agree that no two people would have the same experience with Choronzon, as no two people can have the same experience with anything, nor a single individual have the same exact experience twice with anything. -

Re: CHORONZON Is Coming...Has come.
Sat, August 27, 2005 - 6:19 PMI would agree with all of that. On a personal level I've found Crowley's general approach to be a very powerful one at that. However - when it came to his Choronzon evocation, according to the traditional story that is, I would leave it wide open for debate as to whether or not he actually acheived his goal. I would, however, not necesarilly disagree with Thraam, but what is silence but the proper meditation of Ayin, the proper pronunciation of Shemhamphoresh, the calling on the power of Ein Soph where even Angels fear to tread? The trick of it is, we still have to come back. And I don't care how deep your transformation, it is still a human tendency to lie to ourselves. Are we ever truly free of any of our demons? I would think Crowley himself would say no. But, I do agree with you - he stopped short of crossing the Abyss, no matter how much he spoke of doing so. As Isreal Regardie put it in his words, it was a matter of a lack of depth psychology. That's a little vague, but I see his point. One major vice that Crowley never even acknowleged was his intense connection to his past through his hatred of organized Christian religion. But I recognize that's just my opinion on the matter - I truly don't know whether to say one way or the other whether he managed to cross the Abyss or not. And let the debate rage on, it's irrelevant in the end. My main point here was - as you pointed out - I can't burn my hand on a stove and convey the experience to you with no common frame of reference. One must deal with Choronzon on their own to get anything out of it.

Sat, August 27, 2005 - 6:50 PMBUT - and let me clarify this completely - don't get me wrong - I find an extreme amount of value in what Demitria Thraam has written. And I really do urge anyone who stumbles on this thread to go check the website. It's marvelous.

Re: CHORONZON Is Coming...Has come.
Sat, August 27, 2005 - 7:09 PMHi there. I never did respond to your post. ; )
I think you were completely accurate in saying that being bound in tradition can cause you to be restricted. I feel that ANY tradition can do this. The Dogma of someone else's beliefs can be the worst kind of restriction. Sometimes even your own, as you mention that Crowley was bound in tradition.
The only way you can really do magick well is with your own system. I have come to this conclusion myself recently. Following others, now matter who they are is restrictive. I think that this is a problem with a lot of magicians and their work. They can work themselves to death and they can still have problems, because they bind themselves.
Also I do agree full heartedly that no two people ever have the same type of experiences in their work. I think it is a matter of perception. I was asking people for awhile, just for my own research and to find some answers for myself, what happened with them when they encountered entities, where di they come from? What were they? How did they look, was it auditory, was it visual? was is olafactory? I mean everyone had different things to say. Most felt that it wasn't just internal, it was also external some of the time. No two entities or experiences were ever the same though, in all of the people that responded or I talked to.
Take Care,

Re: CHORONZON Is Coming...Has come.
Sat, August 27, 2005 - 7:30 PMYes. And I do feel that Demitria has addressed this properly in her writings as well. I was not in any way trying to censor her from sharing her experience of 333 - in fact, I got something out of it - I think maybe we all did. What I find most impressive about her research and her work is that she has made Joseph Campbell's dream a reality - and she has dared to create a new myth outside of the confines of money and struggles of power for such ridiculous mundane things - and I find an extreme amount of importance in that. And right there at the end of the description of her new pantheon it reads - "Or perhaps it means you were meant to catalogue your OWN cosmography." We really do need more artist/writers like her around.
